17th EADV CONGRESS PARIS 2008

After Vienna, Paris and Berlin in 2010, as seats for the EADV annual Congress, the EADV will visit again the most important seats of its history not only to celebrate and honour its great past as a clinical discipline par excellence, but also to find new and ever increasing impulses to the challenges of the new molecular and technological medicine. Whatever field dermatologists are involved in, if their scientific qualification is not adequate, the trust-based relationship with patients and institutions will dwindle and consequently their credibility and their professional success will inevitably be called into question. We are all aware of the fact that nowadays the welfare system and therefore also the health system are being strongly curtailed and curiously the university and research system is being strongly penalized also in many European countries. The answer to this trend must be very clear, but in order to be plausible it must be founded on the demonstration of our commitment and cultural suitability.

The Congress of Paris presents itself with these characteristics of scientificity, great clinical commitment and openness to the many voices of international dermatology. The participation of young dermatologists appears to be very important in order to clearly suggest a transmission of knowledge and responsibilities among generations.

The active presence of all the European societies offers once again to the EADV the opportunity of well representing the dermatological Europe. In Paris we will also know the name of the President for the biennium 2010-2012 and the name of the Secretary General elected. Heartfelt best wishes to the candidates, sure that they will represent in the best possible way our society with a high spirit of service.

Sincere thanks to the organisers of the Congress, who carried out an excellent work under the guidance of Pascal Joly, President of the Congress.

Welcome to all, with the certainty that they will return home from Paris with an excellent educational background.

Prof. Alberto Giannetti
EADV President
